Cople District VFD played host to a safety demo by Virginia Power. Va. Power has a trailer set up with electric poles, transformers, and solar panel with batteries, all the goodies you would see on side the road or at a residential or commercial building. The crew gave a very informative demo showing how a generator not wired right to a panel can back feed the lines and charge the system. They also explained that solar power is becoming very big and to be careful around these systems as well. Per Va. Power we as first responders need to treat all wires as LIVE and potential killers.
